Samsung Q70 notebook

Does this lightweight pack a punch?

The Samsung Q70 is a good all-round notebook that will suit the daily traveller. While the screen isn't as bright as we'd have liked, the battery life and keyboard make this a great notebook for using on the daily commute or in the University library....

Samsung produces a range of stylish, powerful and affordable ultraportable laptops. Its Q70 (£699 inc. VAT) personifies this with its combination of impressive specifications, strong usability and excellent battery life. The 2kg chassis is ideal for...

Samsung Q70

We recently ran the rule over a close relation of the Q70, the Q45. To a large extent, the problems we had with the Q45 - slightly gutless looks, and a processor which, at 1.8GHz, was not powerful enough to deliver the holy grail of mobile high-end gaming

Powerful, Comfortable to use

Limited battery life

A good all-round performer, but one that lacks identity somewhat because of its attempts to be all things to all men

Another update to the Q range, but can it match its cheaper sibling?

However this price still makes the Q70 good value for money, just not to the degree of the Q45 and though the Q70 provides a larger hard drive and more RAM comparative to a MacBook, all the new MacBooks come with Draft N wireless and Gigabit Ethernet....

It's back, and this time it means business. A likeable ultraportable with solid performance at a fair price.

Samsung Q70 laptop

The Samsung Q70 is an excellent laptop that will be equally well suited as a business or an entertainment laptop. It'll blend beautifully into any corporate environment thanks to its glossy finish and nimble 2kg frame, while the fast speed and...

The Samsung Q70 is a highly portable option that is powerful, convenient to use and well featured. The aluminium casing heated up a little quickly but, otherwise, the Samsung Q70 had few flaws, performing well in games, battery and WorldBench testing.

Samsung Q70 Review

The Q70 comes with a shiny black cover, which is the current Samsung family styling. However, perhaps to set it apart from the slightly smaller Q45, it has been given a dark grey brushed aluminium palm rest and keyboard surround

An excellent display with bright, uniform illumination and contrast ; Effective and quiet cooling system ; Good audio volume and quality for this size of notebook ; Powerful CPU and generous RAM and hard disk capacity ; The brushed aluminium palm rest...

Relatively fat for this size of notebook ; Very small right shift key (on the UK version) with some other keys in non-standard places ; A limited selection of ports compared to other notebooks in this size range ; The provision of a PC card slot rather...

I am certain that Samsung can interchange the motherboard with the Q45 so they could quickly introduce a model with the X3100 GPU and much better battery life. If mine had come in that configuration then I would probably keep it because my own priority...

Samsung Q70 review

The Q70 has plenty of grunt under the hood and a decent range of features. However, it's all wrapped up in a dull-looking and slightly too heavy and bulky chassis. Ultra-portables are all about sex appeal and this machine just hasn't got the x-factor...

Impressive glossy screen ; Decent range of features

Dull styling ; Rather heavy

The problem remains, however, that there's just nothing really here that stands out and screams 'buy me' at you. In part, this is because of the lacklustre styling, but it's also because it's heavier and thicker than we've grown accustomed to in...
