Review: EnGenius ERB9250 Wi-Fi Range Extender

Wi-Fi networks can be fickle things with their share of dead zones and mysterious performance issues. Engenius's Wi-Fi range extender might help solve some of those problems, and won't require an enterprise network administrator to implement.

We tested the ERB9250 in conjunction with an older EnGenius router product, designed for home and small business use, the 300Mbps Wireless N Router with Gigabit (model ESR-9850), which sells online for about $70.

pluses and minuses

If there was a way to increase the down channel abilities of the device it would be usable but so significantly throttles my speeds as to not be usabale.

It did help to fill the gap in some dead spots, but

but lowered my down channel speeds by half once connected to the device. Also once connected to device any laptop or smartphone would stay connected to the extender rather than switch back to main router even when in same room with main router

EnGenius ERB9250 Wireless Range Extender 802.11b/g/n up to 300Mbps

Worked great for 4 months

Failed in 4 months use. Newegg would not warranty the product and gave me EnGenius phone #................. I was put on hold for 25 minutes then transfed to a answering machine. I was never called back. Do not buy unless you are willing to lose your...

Cheap and Effective but....

Stuff that's not in the manual. This is not POE, 12vDC only. Draws about 110 mA. It will talk to a straight cable or a crossover. My IP camera with a straight cable worked just fine. However my old Gateway laptop kept making and dropping the wired...

Small and effective as a client bridge. Picked up my repeater up to about 120 yards outdoors

Not POE

Ideal for Multi-Story dwelling

Good value if you plan to get the Maximum use of your Internet services. I am running 5 wireless units on a 20 mbs cable service.

easy to setup, very stable and does not drop signal

Color White, Cheap looking, LED lights are simply meaningless and keep flooding every where

EnGenius ERB9250 802.11b/g/n Wireless Range Extender up to 300Mbps

Great little product. It's tiny and the signal strength is awesome! I went from 2 bars in every room to a full 4 bars in absolutely every inch of my house!!! The price is great for a Wireless Extender. The setup instructions were amazing, step by step...

Great Quality

Due to the massive increase in signal strength, I'd recommend protecting your WiFi. Otherwise, many other people will be able to get access. Other than that, there's really not much to say. Great product overall.

The signal boost is insane. I had never experienced setting up or using one of these and the signal boost is just out the door and that's not even being sarcastic. The signal goes a good amount of distance outside

It was a little funky to setup at first, but I finally got it only because I realized what I was doing wrong. It was a shame my router didn't have WPS enabled, but that really was not too much of a problem. Not really a con, just my mistake

Unsuccessful Install

(Guess I'm a "complete goober" as a prior reviewer defined it). RMA'ed it.

Great specs, advertised price/performance

Couldn't get it inserted into my existing wireless network with either the WPS or manual set-up instructs using included cable

Couldn't be simpler.

Previously, I had an Alienware desktop replacement. The thing was a beast and can still run almost anything on the market. However, I got sick of lugging the thing around. I wanted something more mobile, but that still provided me with the ability to...

For me, very simple to install. Upped wireless connection from Very Low to Excellent

Scary looking manual installation. But I didn't have to use them. I followed the automatic installation instructions, watched the installation video, did my homework re checking the IP address, and everything went as expected
