Sony KD-55XE8596

The 55XE8596 is a new 55-inch TV from the middle of Sony's latest 4K range. It still supports HDR despite only costing £1,290, uses edge LED lighting with whole frame dimming, and deploys a combination of YouView and Android TV for its smart features.

Sony KDL-65XE85

Having dropped the ball with its key XD85 range in 2016 by building the models around low-contrast IPS panels, Sony looks to be on much firmer ground with 2017's XE85.

Sony KD-55XE8596 review

A pretty affordable 55in 4K TV, but the HDR performance needs to be better

Natural, neutral, balanced pictures ; Handles motion well ; Good detail, particularly in blacks ; Easy to use

Dull HDR performance ; Upscaler isn’t particularly impressive

A solid Sony but lacks the dynamism to do HDR justice.

Sony BRAVIA X850E (XBR-65X850E) review

A 4K HDR TV that doesn't destroy your bank account

Great value ; Good HDR pictures ; Excellent SDR pictures

HDR isn’t very bright ; Android TV is frustrating ; Slightly flimsy build quality

Considering it costs well under two grand, the 65X850E manages to cling on to a startling amount of relatively high-end features - including, most notably, Sony’s excellent X1 picture processing system. This joins a much-improved backlight system in...

Sony XE85 4K TV review: Impressive performance for the price

After struggling to impress with its mid-range TVs for the past couple of years, Sony has turned things round handsomely with the 55XE8596.

This 4K Sony mid-ranger features a striking space-saving design and provides a much better performance with HDR and SDR pictures than you’ve any right to expect for its money

It’s not very bright for an HDR TV ; Its build quality is a bit flimsy ; And its Android TV smart system can be frustrating

After struggling to impress with its mid-range TVs for the past couple of years, Sony has turned things round handsomely with the XE85.

Sony Bravia XE85 (KD-55XE8596) review: Good but not great

An excellent TV with great black level response and superb motion handling but it isn't great at HDR

Deep black for an LED LCD TV ; Accurate colours ; Smooth motion handling

Limited viewing angle ; Low peak brightness for HDR

Sony X85E (XE85) received

Sony X85E receivedWith the 2017 version Sony will once again use a VA LCD panel after having briefly switched to IPS LCD in last year's 85 series. We expect the VA LCD panel to improve contrast. X85E also offers 4K resolution, HDR (HDR10 and HLG) and...

Sony KD65XE8577SU review

  (Rating Oculto)

A dazzling 65-inch screen is an impressive sight in any store, but before you splash out on the Sony KD65XE8577SU be sure to consult our review. We've seen big-screen TVs miss the mark before and it's a costly mistake to make. Read the full review for...

Sony KD-55XE8596 review

The Sony KD-55XE8596 is a mid-range 55-inch TV with 4K HDR support. The slim aluminium frame and silver slate stand with neat cable management are attractive, and the TV comes with the benefit of Android Smart TV too. Picture quality isn't a match for...

The Sony KD-55XE8596 is a mid-range offering, and is therefore neither the best nor the cheapest TV from Sony this year. We think it ought to be quite a bit cheaper than its £1,400 asking price. Look for a reduction in price to £1,000 as Christmas 2017...
