Olympus SP-550 Ultra Zoom review

Great body design; high-quality, fast, wide, 18x optical zoom lens; sensor-shift image stabilization; manual exposure controls; RAW image capture.

Very slow; high noise above ISO 400; slightly soft images.

Olympus' SP-550UZ has great ergonomics, but disappointingly slow performance and soft, noisy images drag it down.

Olympus Camedia C-7000 Zoom

The C-7000 Zoom has enthusiast-class power squeezed into a compact size.

Perfectly exposed daylights shots with great dynamic range and color; 5X optical zoom; movable autofocus target zone; shoots in RAW, TIFF, and JPEG formats; useful panorama guides; extended exposure bracketing; in-camera slide show special effects;...

Flash shots underexposed; flimsy battery/memory card door and plastic tripod socket; no focusable diopter; no auxiliary flash capability; easy to cover sensor window with your finger.

Olympus Camedia C-765 Ultra Zoom

While none of the superzooms scored a home run, we were most impressed with the Olympus Camedia C-765 Ultra Zoom.

Small. Easily accessible features. Crisp and clear images. Bright LCD display, even in sunlight.

Slowest boot and recycle times.

Olympus released another superzoom, the C-770, after our testing was completed. The C-770 has a more powerful flash, a hot shoe for external flashes, and MPEG-4 movie capture for an additional $100. We'll have a First Look of the C-770 shortly.

Olympus Camedia C-770 Ultra Zoom

The 4-megapixel Olympus Camedia C-770 has more features than the C-765, our Editor's Choice among superzoom models, but purchasers should be sure they need the extra capabilities, as they add complexity.

Olympus Camedia C-750 Ultra Zoom

The 4MP C-750 produces sharp, well-exposed images with its 10X zoom lens. It's a good choice as an all-around camera for enthusiasts moving up from the entry level.

Overall the C-750 is a good choice. It's got a 4-megapixel sensor, a lens capable of taking impressively sharp pictures, and enough extras to keep just about any shutterbug content. Unresponsive zoom and speed issues may disappoint sports fans who pay...

Olympus Camedia C-740 Ultra Zoom review

Olympus Camedia C-740 Ultra Zoom

Wide zoom range; solid image quality; reasonably broad set of shooting features.

Occasionally sluggish zoom response; no sound capture; nonrechargeable batteries yield the fastest performance.

A 10X zoom lens adds some kick to an otherwise average camera.

Olympus Camedia C-730 Ultra Zoom review

Olympus Camedia C-730 Ultra Zoom

Biggest optical zoom available on a 3-megapixel camera; tons of features; takes both old SmartMedia cards and new xD-Picture cards.

Unstabilized lens is susceptible to camera shake; many features buried in LCD menus.

A solidly designed, relatively compact camera whose claim to fame is a 10X zoom lens.

Olympus Camedia D-520 Zoom review

Olympus Camedia D-520 Zoom

Uses regular AA batteries; offers both USB and video outputs; includes spot metering.

Images are on the soft side; relatively slow; fair to poor battery life; CCD artifacts in low-light shots; purple fringing galore.

Lackluster image quality and shoddy performance mar what is otherwise an easy-to-operate camera with a decent feature set.

Olympus Camedia C-3020 Zoom review

Olympus Camedia C-3020 Zoom

Generous feature set and software package at an affordable price; customizable My Mode; sharp, bright LCD.

Optical viewfinder not exactly WYSIWYG; no external flash or video-out connections; doesn't record sound with video clips.

Olympus's Camedia C-3020 delivers more features than you'd expect for its affordable price.
