Metal plate under grill had very sharp edges and cut my finger the first time I ran a cloth underneath it. Have solved the problem by removing the burr with emery cloth, and I now remove the plate to clean it.

When removing the eye level grill pan, it slides out all the way, but it doesn't actually detach from the top grill. So you have to pop food straight onto it. Safety feature I suppose.
