3D Systems Cube 3D Printer review

The Cube 3 is one of the most feature-packed printers you can get for under $1,000, but its hit-or-miss performance can be frustrating.

Uber-simplified user experience ; Dual extruder ; Self-calibrating ; Wi-Fi connectivity ; Enclosed design ; Under $1,000

Buggy, frustrating software ; Lacks advanced user controls ; Expensive proprietary filament cartridges ; Noisy operation ; Non-heated bed occasionally causes misprints

That said, this it’s also one of the most feature-packed printer’s you’ll find for less than $1,000, so even with the occasional misprint, this machine gives you a ton of bang for your buck.

3D Systems Cube 3 ( White)

It's far from perfect, however. At times during my testing period, large print jobs failed half-way through the print cycle, and the printer takes a long time between jobs to cool down. The machine also uses 3D Systems' proprietary -- and expensive --...

The 3D Systems Cube 3 is well-designed and easy to use. The printer builds small objects excellently and is inexpensive for a printer that can print with two materials in the same job.

Printing large objects can randomly fail halfway through the process, and the printer needs to cool down after a job before it can print again. The machine uses 3D Systems' expensive proprietary filament cartridges.

If you don't mind sticking to small print jobs, the Cube 3 is as good as it gets for a compact 3D printer.

3D Systems Cube 3 review

The 3D Systems Cube 3 is one of the most compact dual-extruder 3D printers I've seen. The machine is well-designed and capable of calibrating on its own, which means it's ready to work right out of the box. It's also very easy to use and can print...

3D Systems Cube review review

MakerBot's Replicator 3D printer is difficult to master, but that difficulty is offset by its vibrant user community and its deeply tweakable software and hardware. The same can be said for cheaper 3D printers, which, like the Replicator, offer...

The 3D Systems Cube 's intuitive touch screen, Wi-Fi print features, and smart, removable build platform provide some conveniences you won't find in other 3D printers.

Underpowered software, overpriced printing material, and overly locked-down hardware hurt the Cube's appeal for general consumers and hobbyists alike.

3D Systems has some useful ideas in its Cube 3D printer, but it sacrifices too many features in the name of accessibility.

"Finally, a 3D printer I can use out of the box..."

I recently acquired a 3D Systems Cube printer for some work projects. We had talked about getting into 3D printing but had run into trouble selecting which direction. Reprap, Makerbot, and all the other 'DIY' printers seemed more like a hobby than a...

*Almost Ink Jet simplicity

*Cost ($1299 is about twice where it needs to be for mainstream)

"Poor print quality."

Looks like a Fisher-Price toy and and unfortunately... functions like one. While the competitors in this price bracket may not be as pleasing to the eye, they surpass the quality of output by far when compared to this offering from 3D Systems. Since...

Aesthetically pleasing form factor, low cost of purchase.

Poor z-layer resolution, use of a hot plate to compensate for poor heat nozzle implementation. All parts and materials are proprietary, translating to high cost of ownership compared to similarly priced offerings in this industry segment.

Junk

Buy something else, anything else. Maybe a makerbot?

Software easy to use, low cost

Only has 90 warranty and this thing will break, the limit switches in this thing are junk and fail all the time. I've already had the unit replaced once and now the limit switches are failing outside of warranty. I've only had it 6 months and it's...

3-D Printer

Makes an excellent product for it's size.

Filament breaks and jambs print head. I have to disassemble head to clean out. Software is hard to unzip and load after downloading.
