Nikon 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF Nikkor Review Round-Up

The Nikkor AF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 exhibited a very good performance in the lab EXCEPT at the long end of the zoom range. At 75mm and 200mm the resolution figures are very good but beyond there's a rapid decline in quality. At 300mm f/5.6 the results are...

Nikon 75-150mm f/3.5 Series E Manual Focus Review Round-Up

This is one of Nikon's best telephoto zoom designs. Wide open, the lens is reasonably sharp, certainly far better than you'd have any right to expect with an inexpensive lens. The large maximum aperture and focal range make this an excellent portrait...

Nikon 75-300 f/4.5-5.6 AF Zoom-Nikkor

I've used this lens for about two years now on an F100 and a D200. Optical performance has been outstanding, especially from 100-250mm, where it is nearly impossible to tell the difference in sharpness in 100% crops when compared to photos of the same...

Sharpness, sharpness, and sharpness. Relatively light for it's focal length and considering that it's all metal. Solid build, but like most push-pulls the zoom is very "free". I really like the built-in rotating tripod mount--doesn't get in the way but...

Nikon 75-240mm f/4.5-5.6D AF Zoom-Nikkor

Excellent overall lens for the price paid. I had this lens for more than 5 years when I first bought it in 2001. Sold it when I got myself a Nikon 80-200 F2.8 in 2006. I now feel I should have held on to it, since I need a less expensive zoom as a...

Sharp ; And yes, it is cheap

You get what you pay ; It has few weaknesses for the price you buy it like being very plastic and of course the hood doesn't stick to the lens front

Nikon 75-300 f/4.5-5.6 AF Zoom-Nikkor

I purchased this lens because of Ken Rockwell's glowing review. I have shot a lot of rolls of film with it so I think I can make some valid observations as to its quality. It is pretty sharp wide open and does not search for focus. It is very sturdy...

Macro work w/a 6T is beautiful! I don't think it is better than a Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro Super (which I had and used) for regular shooting but the macro shots w/the 6T are fabulous! Macro is a little akward being that it is a medium size lens but the...

Something kinda strange w/out of focus highlights @300mm. I cannot articulate what the problem was but it seemed to happen when shooting at a wider aperture. I know it has 9 blades in the diaphram but the out of focus background still looked a little...

Nikon 75-300 f/4.5-5.6 AF Zoom-Nikkor

This review is of the original 75 to 300 AF zoom which is predecessor of the current 70 to 300 ED zoom. I haven't used the current zoom but I can vouch for the optical quality of the 75 to 300. It differs from the current lens in that it's push-pull...

Very sharp Built-in tripod collar (you need it because it weighs 30 oz.)

Push-pull so it will extend when hanging around your neck. Not IF. AF kind of slow. (However, not that bad on F100, F5 or N90s). Does have a focus limiter switch, though

Nikon 75-240mm f/4.5-5.6D AF Zoom-Nikkor

Excellent lens for the price, and much underrated by reviewers who compare everything to the highend professional lenses that cost 10+ times as much.

Lightweight, fast autofocus lens with quite good optics.

Plastic lensmount, hood doesn't function properly when wide open at the short end.

Nikon 75-240mm f/4.5-5.6D AF Zoom-Nikkor

Underrated lens. I find myself using it more and more often. Construction is light - plastic, not meta- but look at the price. You won''t find a better value for the price and the range. Superior to the new Nikon 70-300 G lens. I''ve used it for...

Low cost, good range, sharp centers, good color, lightweight.

Weak, plastic filter threads.

Nikon 75-240mm f/4.5-5.6D AF Zoom-Nikkor

This is an ideal zoom lens for all but perhaps the most demanding professional photographer. Don''t let the low price (more money for film), plastic construction (kinder to you neck and back), and the ''Made in China'' label (so what!?) put you off...

Sharp, very useful range, and inexpensive. For most subjects, it produces high quality images very similar to, but not the same as, Nikon''s prime lenses, at a fraction of the cost. Just make sure you buy a good sample (test it as soon as possible) and...

Would benefit from a faster aperture (particularly at the long end) but of course it would mean higher prices. If your camera has a reasonably bright viewfinder, then practice holding the camera steady, use a tripod, use a fast film (such as the...

Nikon 75-240mm f/4.5-5.6D AF Zoom-Nikkor

Overall I am satisfied, but if I had the choice again, I would consider seriously the 70-300mm for a similar price. It is sooo dark at 240mm, that finding a subject at low light past 150mm is difficult.

light, cheap, sturdy hood, 52mm filters

quite slow to focus, and otherwise slow,
