A first foray into the world of GPS for Hitachi, the MMP-501 is a bulky GPS unit that offers a large 5in touch screen display, Bluetooth hands free co...
Large 5in screen, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, Music and video playback, User interface, Good volume levels, Competitive price
Chunky and heavy, Entertainment offering lacks features, Somewhat slow to pick up a GPS signal, Large and bulky window mount, Poor battery life
If you can overlook the size and the rather basic entertainment features, this GPS does the job and for what it offers, the MMP-501 comes in at a very respectable price point compared with many other units on the market.

Solid, practical and robust unit. Had mine for 2 years and updated it every year so far. No plans to replace it any time soon.

If you have one of these dump it. If you are thinking about a GPS avoid this one.
Big screen
Slow to start ; Bad directions that dont take into account the traffic laws ; Outdated maps and no timeline for an update ; Power input broke within 3 months ; Window mount broke within 6 months

Most of the so called experts that review this type of equipment are paid for their egotistical bias. Navigation is the name of the game. Anything else, get in the back seat and watch the cartoons.
Very good all round Nav.System.That is why I bought the Hitachi MMP501 and it does the job very well. Excellent operational instructions and ease of implementation
The velvet type carry bag is a good idea, but incorporated with a protective case for storage and handling/carrying would be ideal

Just recently bought it - a new user to the world of gps navigation systems. I love it so far, and it has been convenient for me and a good 'talking point' for passengers in my car! There are features yet to be tested, so am looking forward to trying...
Clear and accurate directions ; Fast recalculating ; Considerably extensive list of POIs ; Mounts well ; Large, responsive and intuitive screen
No alternative options for a male voice, but that'd be just me: seeing that I think all gps are equipped with female voices ; No tolls nor signs such as Stop signs and No Right Turn signs as well as traffic (I think so far) recognised. But I'm not sure...
