Fitbit Ionic review: Bridging the gap between fitness tracker and smartwatch

The Fitbit Ionic not only brings a solid, lightweight design with a beautiful screen, it also adds built-in GPS and dedicated swim functionality that

Great design with beautiful colour display ; Waterproof ; GPS ; Excellent platform ; Continuous heart-rate monitoring ; Automatic exercise recognition ; Multi-sport tracking ; Comfortable ; Decent battery life

Touchscreen not responsive enough ; Expensive ; It's not that smart as smartwatches go

Fitbit Ionic review (updated): Buy the Versa instead, unless you really need GPS

The Ionic remains Fitbit's top of the line product, but the Versa is the better choice for anyone who's not a runner.

Fitbit Ionic has a better-than-most-smartwatches four-day battery life, while still having always-on heart rate and a comfy fit. It has features galore: waterproofing, GPS and on-wrist mobile payments, plus new watch faces and a growing app store. It...

Wrist payments don't work with as many banks as Apple Pay and Android Pay. On-wrist music is hard to set up and use. Software and apps sometimes feel buggy.

Fitbit’s fitness smartwatch has gotten better with an infusion of watch faces and apps, but some of its extra-smart features still aren't as polished as the competition.

Fitbit Ionic long-term review: daft software mars excellent fitness tracking

The Fitbit Ionic is the company's first major foray into the smartwatch market. But can it hang with its Android Wear contemporaries and the Apple Watch?

: The Fitbit Ionic is an admirable first attempt to rival the likes of Apple, Google and Samsung on the fitness tracker-cum-smartwatch front, but it’s definitely much further from the latter. Its software lacks the polish its physical design shows, and...

Review: Fitbit Ionic aims at Apple Watch, but needs more apps

Fitbit's first attempt at a smartwatch proves better as a high-end fitness tracker than a full-on competitor to the Apple Watch.

Fitbit Ionic review: A great fitness tracker, a mediocre smartwatch

Fitbit's new Ionic smartwatch outpaces Apple and Android Wear watches when it comes to fitness tracking, but it falls short as a smartwatch.

Comfortable design that sports a pretty thin profile. ; Stellar battery life that pushes well into a fourth day. ; Advanced sensors and software deftly track your movements.

Functionality as a smartwatch is severely limited. ; Non-exercise apps don't really do much.

Fitbit's new Ionic smartwatch is a smart fitness tracker but lacks intelligence as a smartwatch.
