Panasonic Viera TC-P42X1

The Panasonic TC-P42X1 costs only $700 (estimated street price as of 9/24/09). But while this plasma HDTV set can accept a 1080p input, it downscales the image to its native 720p resolution. This was the likely cause of the set's biggest problem in our...

Low price ; Wide viewing angle

Only 720p resolution ; Underpowered sound

A 720p plasma set, the low-cost Panasonic TC-P42X1 provides problematic images and underpowered sound.

Panasonic TC-42PX14

If you're in the market for a reasonably priced large screen HDTV, the TC42PX14 makes a good choice. It's combination of features, performance and quality make it an ideal choice as the centerpiece for that new home theater system. And with a stated...

Panasonic TC-P42X1

The Panasonic TC-P42X1 is a 42-inch LCD HDTV available for a suggested retail price of $900, but bargain-hunters can find it for $750 or less, making it an inexpensive option for its size. There are compromises involved in that price, however,...

The Panasonic TC-P42X1 had some interesting test results. It was capable of a very low black level, but we noticed that it had trouble displaying details in dark areas. Most plasmas have trouble with brightness, but in the case of the TC-P42X1 this was...

Panasonic's 2009 X1 series is built for the budget-minded shopper. It contains some great features and produces a good image but lacks some of the latest additions that most manufacturers are including in their new line-up's.

Panasonic TC-P42X1

We accurately predicted back in March 2009 that the price on the X1 720p models would be compelling. The TC-P42X1 can be purchased for around $750 at Best Buy or Amazon as of June 2009

Panasonic TC-P42X1 Review

Those seeking to buy an entry level plasma TV with great picture quality and a decent set of features have found it in Panasonic TC-P42X1. This Panasonic plasma TV is cheaper than the models from mid and high level mainly because of its 720p...

Good black levels ; Fair price ; Reasonable set of features

Uniformity issues ; Color accuracy is not too great ; Standard definition performance is mediocre

One can easily see that Panasonic TC-P42X1 is a step lower than the models from S1 series, just by noticing the panel. Panasonic TC-P42X1 uses the G12 Progressive HD PDP panel, and not the new NeoPDP panel, meant to save more energy. There is also the...

dead after only 2 years

Called Panasonic and as expected they could have cared less. I mentioned how it seemed common for these to die after 2 years, and I was told nothing lasts for ever....nice. I noticed the replacement boards are redesigned??? could it be they know there...

Had a great Picture. Sound was not bad

TV died after only two years. Look on line, this seems to be common for the 42" to die after 2-3 years. Even repairing it myself would cost about 3/4 the cost of the unit. Bad SC Board, Bad power supply
