Panasonic TC-PU50 review

In a year when dual-core TVs vaunt voice control, touch-pad remotes, gesture recognition, app stores, and often mediocre picture quality, the Panasonic TC-PU50 series is a throwback. A bona fide Dumb TV , the U50 couldn't launch an app or sync with 3D...

The inexpensive Panasonic TC-PU50 series in its superb picture quality surpasses many TVs costing hundreds more. Its black levels can get as deep as any but those of the very best plasma TVs. Color is accurate, off-angle viewing and uniformity are...

The TC-PU50 washes out in bright room lighting, and it can't get as bright in its most accurate picture mode as some plasmas this size. It has just two HDMI inputs. It also uses significantly more power than a like-sized LCD or LED TV.

A low price, excellent picture quality, and bare-bones features make the Panasonic TC-PU50 series a superb entry-level plasma TV value.

Great when it works

When you're frustrated, it's difficult to be fair... but I'll try: This is an incredible TV for the price, my first plasma. I was reluctant bc I live in SoCal and I was worried about brightness... no need. Granted, I usually have it set to Game or...

Picture, Deep Blacks, Bright for Plasma, Good Price

Blinking lights of death, Panasonic Customer Support useless hassle

Great TV! I've been an owner for 2 years.

Big, viewing angle, deep blacks, relatively cheap compared to other plasmas (I got this for an excellent price like $1300), Panasonic. The colors are great and no issues whatsoever.

none but I wish it was bigger!

Best Flat Panel for the Money!

This set is absolutely the bomb for anyone looking to either step up in screen size or just getting into the HD screen for the first time. Both my former landlady and I own Panasonic plasma's and we could not be any happier for our choice of purchases....

Deep, saturated color. Fast response time for sports and movie images. Easy to use remote and on screen menus

NONE! If you need a brighter set in your living room, either wait for the sun to go down or erect some curtains. either way you will not be disappointed with the screen's performance.

Thermonuclear Bang for $499 Bucks

This TV gives up nothing in picture quality and its plenty bright for my sunlit room with 8.5 feet of bow window and 4.5 ft side window. TV as bright as son's ST with C.A.T.S turned on and compares well with brother-in-laws VT65 saving $2,000, in spite...

TV has adequate pictures controls for an impressive image. Able to adjust picture in various modes to appropriate levels for regular Broadcasts (Standard), Movies (Cinema), Sports (Vivid) and Games (Custom). Roku2 XS, Blue-Ray provide "smart apps".

Unjustified that Panasonic doesn't provide full adjustment software on all their TV's like there is on VT software. They could offer VT owners a 20 year warranty, trade-in privilege or set the TV into a black granite bezel with ornate carved stand.

"Low priced entry model"

In reference to the unfortunate buyer with the early failure if he had done a little more research he would have found that blinking red LEDs can happen on ALL panel TVs including all the big players in this market. It's not CNET responsibility to...

Took a while to dial in the settings for a good picture and at first I wasn't too thrilled with what I was seeing but patience and experimenting paid off and now the display looks like a Panasonic should.

Very limited settings available to tweak. It's obvious that Panasonic limited both features and controls to keep the cost down so this really isn't a con. If I wanted more setting controls I could have paid more for the next model up.

"BUYER BEWARE!!"

OK..so I purchased the 60" version of this Panasonic plasma from Amazon on 10/3/12...spent an entire day running wiring behind my wall and putting up a wall mount...turn it on and the picture is BEAUTIFUL...then 2nmins later the screen goes completely...

Low cost, great picture (for 2 mins)

It was DOA.
