Long pauses

I was given this drive as an unexpected birthday present (they of course bought it from NewEgg) and was really ecstatic at first, but these freezes are really annoying.

It's so fast. Windows 7 Ultimate boots in under 20 seconds

I have been getting these long pauses where it seems to be freezing the whole OS for anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes. I've tweaked a lot of settings in bios but can't find a whole lot of help from PQI on the issue

Solid State Speed

I read guides claiming that Windows 7 makes various changes to itself to accomodate an SSD. This is *NOT TRUE*, you have to do it yourself. It's not difficult, just run a search on optimization techniques and you can do it easily.

Nice and fast. Windows 7 comes out of hiberation ultra fast with this drive

Expensive compared to normal drives of comparable capacity, but that's what you get when you buy solid state. Not as fast as it could be--the technology still has to mature a bit more

PQI DK9640GD2R000A03 2.5" 64GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I am buying another because it is so great

very fast and very silent unless you put your ear to the drive. doubled the life in my notebook from 1.5 hours to 3 which i love about this drive. amazingly fast and a must buy for any performance computer. as long as your computer has a sata port you...

small but the best value ssd on the market. no TRIM support but with the money i have saved i can buy 2 for the price of an ssd with TRIM

Good for 9 months

Very quick read, and quick enough write performance when new using Windows 7

Write performance deteriorated so much after 9 months that the drive is unusable. The drive can't buffer a Youtube video without the whole computer freezing up. PQI support says they don't recommend loading an OS on that drive

So far, so good!

It's a great, fast, inexpensive SSD. I wasn't going to spend 300 bucks on one from Intel or another company when this one does the job just as well.

Great speed so far, and no issues with formatting as others have mentioned. I'm running windows 7 on it. From the time I hit the power-switch to actually being fully logged in and loaded is around 20 seconds or less

It's tiny. I couldn't mount it in my hard drive rack in my case, I had to lash it to the top. There was absolutely no way to mount it anywhere else. Didn't come with any kind of brackets or anything to mount it with, so that was my only choice

Works Fine

I originally used this on XP with the SATA interface. Then I used this on XP with the USB. There were no problems. When I attempted to use this with Windows 7 SATA it could not mount the filesystem. I reformatted it in W7 and now it works on both XP...

It works ; I use it to capture SDI and DV video from a live recording ; About 80MB/sec read with blackmagic speed test on P55-UD4P

Had to reformat once

PQI SSD

Great drive especially since it has USB and can be used in a laptop and as a USB device, this allows great flexibility! I will continue using it because it does save me time in the longrun, maybe it was XP that crashed it dunno will try VISTA on it now...

It is as fast as advertised, little issues when i first got it 3 months ago. Works great with the dual USB cable that is supplied and as SATA... 13 Seconds from cold start to inside windows, amazing

It died exactly 2 months into using it, all data was irretrievable. With a conventional drive you rarely see 100% data loss, normally if a drive fails you can get some data back there is many ways to recover data from normal platters! I found out this...

Works with Vista

I used SSD Tweaker (on the OCZ forum) to do a few tweaks to reduce unnecessary writes. You mainly want to turn off the built-in Vista defragmenter, the Windows Search service (known as Indexing in WinXP), and also Superfetch. There are a few other...

I installed Vista (32 bit) on this drive in my ThinkPad X60 with no problems in AHCI mode. I didn't see any stuttering or hangs with the installation or any of the online updates. It is faster opening programs than the 120 GB 5400 rpm single platter...

none ; But when you install the operating system, it is probably best (or at least easiest) to leave the partition in place that is on the drive, and just do formatting. If you delete that partition and create a new one with WinXP, you may get...

Bang for the Buck

Installed Windows 7 Beta build7000. Disabled page file, & hibernation.

It's not using Intel memory controller. I have not felt any stutter.

None I could think of.

SSD perfect for DAW!

Can't believe this little SSD has no spining disk so simple! No sound! Amazing technology! I've noticed these PQI SSD listed under SATA at Newegg but they should be listed under SATA II since they are SATA II.

Decided to go with this PQI SSD because it features an Intel MLC. I believe the other similarly priced SSD use Samsung chips. Installation was a little wacky on my Intel MOBO, had to set the BIOS to IDE for my system to install Windows XP. Wouldn't...

I've gotten a few pauses every so often. Apparantly from what I've read most of these lower priced SSD on the market use the JMicron JMF602 controller which are the cause of these pauses experienced during simultaneous write and reads. I've read some...
