Compared to the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, which have had more than a year to mature into fully-featured immersive VR platforms, the Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset feels half-baked.

Relatively affordable for a tethered headset. Comfortable. Easy to set up. No external sensors or beacons needed.

Camera-based position tracking isn't quite as responsive as sensor/beacon-based tracking. SteamVR compatibility is buggy. Windows Mixed Reality library is small compared with SteamVR and Oculus Rift.

Bottom Line: The first Windows Mixed Reality VR headset we've tested, the Acer AH101-D8EY offers strong, affordable hardware for a platform that still has a lot of rough edges to smooth.

Without making much judgment not knowing its price, the Acer HMD is the sharpest and lightest HMD we’ve tested yet. With the potential to cost $200 left than a Rift, Oculus and HTC better think of something -- and fast.

The Acer Windows Mixed Reality headset is one of the more affordable Mixed Reality headset offerings but, unfortunately, at this £399 price point, it can't quite compete with headsets like the equally-priced Oculus Rift. Not yet, anyway.
