It’s a solid update but, alas, an unexciting one. Don’t get me wrong, the Huawei MateBook X Pro remains one of the finest ultraportables money can buy. It has an amazing display, very good all-round performance – including a modicum of gaming ability...

Gorgeous screen with high resolution. In addition to the design and build quality from the top shelf, it has excellent sound.

Battery life is mediocre, as is performance. Huawei uses old technology for memory, and simply does not get enough out of the other specifications.

There’s no doubt that Huawei would like the MateBook X Pro to be a type of Windows 10 alternative to Apple’s MacBook Pro. The Chinese company will hardly admit it publicly, but you can only look at the design and naming of the machines if in doubt.

The MateBook X Pro (2020) is a great Windows laptop that offers good specs in a thin and premium body but there are some issues to fix like the fan noise and webcam placement.

That leaves a pretty narrow niche of people who want a work-first laptop but don't need it for anything too intensive, but who also want to pay a premium for niche and luxury features like the hi-res touch-screen display or the Huawei phone...
