The Archos 5 offers oodles of storage, built-in Wi-Fi, a Web browser, and a big, beautiful touch screen.

Tons of storage. Sleek design. Huge, beautiful screen. Built-in Wi-Fi and Web browser. On-screen home button for one-click main menu access. No need for stylus.

Quite expensive. Power button is also the reset button. Touch-screen interface is not as sophisticated as iPod touch's. UI could stand to be streamlined a bit—requires too many clicks at times.

If you can afford it and want the best combination of Web access and outstanding video performance, this is one of the only players in the world you need to consider, despite its flaws.

Amazing screen. Decent capacity options. Revised interface. Video subtitle support. Optional PVR functionality. Flash 9 support.

Additional-but-essential codecs cost more money. No 720p H.264 support. Can't output to TV without costly adaptor.

Outstanding video performance and great Web capabilities, but outdone in both fields by Cowon and Apple.

At 127.5x78.3x12.9mm, the 5 is basically the same size as its predecessor, the Archos 605 WiFi. In this iteration, however, Archos has added a generous half-inch of screen - its size is now 4.8in, so it takes up almost all of the device's faceplate.

The Archos 5 is a beautifully designed portable video player with a stunning screen and very good audio and video playback. But do factor in the cost of accessories and plug-ins.

Archos has been in the PMP (personal media player) business for the longest time so when they did an Android-powered tablet with the Archos 5, I thought the market will be pleased to see an affordable device coupled with a great mobile OS.
